Sew Down, Fashion fused with Music, Art and Technology- Los Angeles Fashion Week- Nov 7th

September 18, 2004 -- The fifth edition of Los Angeles’ premier Street Fashion event promises to be the hottest yet, at its new location, the venerable Hollywood Athletic Club. The not-to-be-missed event Sew Down, will close out LA Fashion Week with a blend of cutting edge FASHION, mind-blowing ART and great MUSIC from the STREETS fusing together with LA’s grooviest crowd. Designer, trendsetter, events organizer and gal about town Atousa is pleased to put out a call for participation for the most exciting version of this acclaimed festival yet.

The LA Fashion Week edition of Sew Down will take place Sunday, November 7th, from 6:00pm – 2:00am at the Hollywood Athletic Club, 6525 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. Admission is $5 and this event will feature three full rooms with bars, music and fabulous clothes to buy at wholesale and sample sale prices! Thousands of LA’s hippest and grooviest fashionistas and music fans attended the previous events, and even more are expected at this expanded and revamped Sew Down.

Thee Los Angeles Times says: “It’s really the crest of the wave of music, and art and style. Sew Down, basically, is describing a subculture, something new that’s happening – so new, there’s not a label for it yet.” While The LA Weekly adds: “Whether your look is hip-hop hottie or rock & roll rouser, you can get outfitted for cheap by local lines at Sew Down.”

Sew Down showcases fashion, art, and music exhibitors who are passionate about the lifestyles they put forth in the clothing, artwork, and sounds they create; fashions that draw upon trends of the street, international style, technology and media. Sew Down fosters creative minds and risk-takers within the fashion and art community, providing consumers with a glimpse of the next trend, the next line, the next breakout designer all at fantastic sample sale prices.

Sew Down, is housed at one of the most popular, classiest and unique multi-use venues in Los Angeles, the Hollywood Athletic Club on Sunset Blvd. The “Showcase” room will house the stage and runway and 20 booths. This room features the sounds of top DJs of the caliber of Sandra Collins, Ron Trent, Reid Speed, Juan Atkins, Marques Wyatt, DJ Harvey, Charles Feelgood, Raymond Roker, Electric Skychurch and Daniel who all performed at previous Sew Downs. The stage, designed by LA’s top visual artist Vello Virkhouse will have the fashion show, dancers, performance artists and trapeze performers.

The “Moroccan” room will feature select designers, complimented by the music of great DJs along with a full bar. The “Vestibule” room of the space serves as the gallery for a variety of top painters and including Richard Duardo, Mear One, Adam Mostow and Acosta.

The last Sew Down showcased the following designers and lines: Atousa, I B Kinky, Renegade Clothing, Polka-Dot Starfish, Hi-Roller, Happy Campers, Minawear, Tom Sleeping, Good Godess, Truth Serum, Army Pink, Carly Jessica, Rebecca Norman, Jen Lew Designs and Adriani. See below for info on how to participate if you have a line.

California Apparel news calls Sew Down, “wild, elegant and playfully avant-garde.” While Noho LA gushed: “It felt like being in a futuristic rave mall where breakout fashions and political activism danced to great DJs. There were all kinds of performers like trapeze and performance artists plus tons of great clothing. The beats were non-stop and the styles were drop dead gorgeous at Sew Down.” And Campus Circle declares, “If you enjoy fashion, art and music, then this event will surely satisfy each and every one of your creative taste buds.”

Event creator Atousa is so pleased with the growth of the event. “We knew it was a great concept when we started and after the first few events, we knew it was a great reality too. This time we plan to shake up the new spot with even cooler designers, artists and DJs.” she states. Adding, “Come celebrate fashion week with us, it’s fun, it’s only $5 and the deals on clothes are awesome.”
