International Fashion Designers to Converge on New York City

In addition to the benefits of traditional fashion weeks, USA International Fashion Shows offers participating designers a continued business presence in New York and the USA through a series of marketing tools including the Internet, a rep referral network, and audio-visual presentations to buyers and the press.

The shows will take place at the newly renovated Altman Building, a designated landmark, at 135 West 18th Street, New York City, September 7-10, 2003. The international press, fashion buyers and reps from boutiques, specialty stores and major department stores are being invited to attend.

A selected number of participating designers will show in a scaled-down version of the shows February 5-6, 2003 in an intimate setting for fashion buyers and special guests from the press; details available upon request.

From more than 200 fine designers applying for inclusion in the event, only a limited number are being accepted based on the quality of their designs, their marketability in the United States and their ability to fulfill orders. The runway shows will be professionally staged with top lighting and sound companies from New York as well as professional runway models. There will also be exhibits of top-of-the line fashion accessories. The number of participants is expected to double next season as additional venues will be secured for the production.

Designers that have already been selected to do runway shows reflect the variety and versatility of the fashion world. Zimbabwe-born, South Africa-raised designer Clive Rundle will present a runway show of his designs noted for their complicated structure, which is an extension of his entire creative process. Using the language of form, line, color and texture as his means of communication, Mr. Rundle’s couture collection is sure to be eyed with interest by entertainers and Hollywood stars, as well as the fashionable woman looking for something different and edgy, yet refined. Mr. Rundle showed his Spring 2003 collection during fashion weeks in Johannesburg and New York. After showing his Fall 2003 line during the USA International Fashion Shows, Mr. Rundle will be establishing a showroom presence in New York City.

Some of the stunning designs of Lourdes Atencio, of Cuban-Dominican extraction, recently appeared in the hefty coffee table book “ I Do: 100 Years of Wedding Fashion” by prestigious London publisher Co & Bear. Selected for their exquisite workmanship and innovative spin on traditional form, photos of Ms. Atencio’s wedding gowns appear in the book along with those of top designers including Christian Dior, Betsey Johnson, Yves Saint Laurent and many others. The Miami-based designer’s runway presentation during the USA International Fashion Shows will showcase a couture collection that will include refined ensembles for plus sizes and women of curves.

“With trained reps seeking out the best designers on site in countries like Ecuador, Russia, Switzerland, Colombia and Ukraine, as well as a web site in five different languages, this event is striving to be a truly global spectacle,” according to producer Andres Aquino. “This is a unique and affordable opportunity for fabulous designers from the around the world to show in New York in a professional environment and reach the lucrative U.S. fashion market while at the same time receiving coverage by the international press.”

Fashion Syndicate Press, the event organizer, has covered designer runway shows in South America, Canada, New York, South Africa and Europe since 1997, with fashion photography and articles being featured in hundreds of magazines, newspapers and books around the world. The background of producer Andres Aquino includes over 20 years in international business, fashion photography and event production. When launching USA International Fashion Shows, Mr. Aquino quickly gained the support of his extensive contacts in the international press and the fashion industry.

Efforts to secure major sponsor participation are also in full swing. Frantour Mauritius Ltd., based in Switzerland, will give away a trip to the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. A lucky participating fashion designer or fashion buyer will win a 7 day-vacation package for two to the island paradise, including roundtrip airfare from any major city in Europe or New York, accommodations at the five-star Hilton hotel, all transfers and a two-day tour of the island.
