Presentation is everything during this time of year. Designers usually go out of their minds trying to find a way to show their collection along with their complete visualization of it’s concept in a creative fashion show or presentation. Designers in NYC are stronger and more creatively focused then ever before. Since 9/11, the fashion industry has taken a turn towards mass market and retailers whose product names mean safety and security. Now there seems to be a new emergence of the end consumer wanting something a little more daring, something "new" or even just improved on. The apparel market has always had an underground and elitists design movement. However, the designers of this movement do not always have the funds to produce large-scale shows and or get a publicist behind them to promote their success and creativity. In the past designers have looked towards companies like GEN-ART and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week to show their fashions to audiences filled with buyers and the fashion media. Most of these events are geared towards lines that are established and supported by large financial backers. Avant-garde Circuit has found a way for the designer to reach their target market and gain the industry exposure they need. The Avant-Garde designers circuit is showing each month at some of NYC’s most prestigious nightclubs and event spaces until February 2004 when they will host a Runway trade event called AVANT-GARDE 2004.
What ever happened to the struggling designer that exudes a tremendous creativity that has never been seen? They struggle to come up with thousands of dollars to help them start –up their own operations. Sometimes the purpose of a Fashion show is overlooked due to the enormous funding and expensive publicity it takes to get the right people there. How can a show like Avant-garde help? The purpose of each venue is to connect the designer with their end consumer as well as buyers and fashion media. The consumer, retail buyers and Fashion Media will be invited to shows to see the designers' collection. This is a local promotional effort, it is designed to help the designer gain market exposure, and recognition through sales to solicit the type of funding needed for a successful start-up or expansion.
